2012 saw the 31st Chester Half Marathon take place over a new fast course, starting at the racecourse and finishing in the City centre outside the Town Hall and Cathedral.

For many years the Chester Half Marathon has sold out in advance.  Although the new route allows for more runners, numbers in 2012 were restricted to 5,000 and sold out.

Chester, as an international destination city, has much to offer visitors, including the Roman walls and amphitheatre, shopping on its unique split-level Rows dating from the Middle Ages, the famous Eastgate Clock and museums. On the outskirts of the City are the massive Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, Chester Zoo and the Blue Planet Aquarium.

As the organisers of the MBNA Chester Marathon, after only two years we have developed an enviable reputation with runners of all levels and abilities. Our passion is to deliver mass participation world class races. With this in mind we are growing the Cheshire Oaks Chester Half Marathon on a gradual basis to ensure that the quality of the race is not compromised in any way.

The race will start at the city centre Chester Racecourse. The fast (and largely flat) route will be run on entirely on closed roads. Heading out of the City on wide roads runners will rapidly settle into the race, with plenty of support. In the second half of the race runners are guaranteed an extra special welcome from the residents of Saughall and Blacon on this especially fast stretch of the course before heading back into the City for a memorable finish outside the Town Hall and Cathedral.

Drinks stations at every 3 miles, with bottled water at every station, a Shotz gel station at the halfway point and Shotz electrolyte tab at the finish. There will be chip timing with split at 6 miles. All finishers receive a technical T-shirt, bespoke medal and an additional post finish treat!
