2021 Event Date Change FAQs
We know you will all have questions about the date change for the 2021 Chester Half Marathon to 19th September 2021. We have tried to answer the most common questions here.
Why have you taken the decision to change the date of the 2021 Essar Chester Half Marathon?
Due to the continuing uncertainty around the Covid-19 pandemic, and following discussions with the authorities and feedback from runners, we have made the decision to re-arrange the dates for the 2021 Aldi Chester 10k and Essar Chester Half Marathon.
We’re confident the extra time permitted by staging the event later in 2021 will allow cases to drop, the demand on the NHS to reduce and vaccines to be dispensed. This, combined with the measures we are planning to implement for our covid secure events, will provide the least overall disruption to each event in 2021.

What are my options now the event has been postponed?
Your entry will be automatically transferred to the new date of 19th September - you don't need to do anything.
You should have received an email outlining all your options, please check your junk folder if you have not received it.
If you are not available on the new date, you have three options:
Run It Your Way
Providing you retain a valid entry to the event, you may run the race your own way by completing at least the race distance anytime between 22nd August and 17th October. To run the race your way, log into your account on www.niftyentries.com, find the race place you would like to defer, choose Transfer, select ‘Transfer to another event’ and then pick the Run Your Way event.
Please ensure you follow all the latest government guidance when running and stay safe.
Transfer your race place to another runner
You are able to transfer your race place to another runner, free of charge. For insurance and medical reasons, all transfers must be completed using the official transfer process on Nifty.com.
To transfer your race place log into your account on www.niftyentries.com, find the race place you would like to transfer, choose Transfer, select 'Transfer to another runner' and enter the email details of the other runner. Once they accept the transfer your entry will be cancelled.
Defer your entry to 2022
You are able to defer your entry to the 2022 half marathon for no extra charge. The race date, which is usually the third Sunday in May, will be confirmed at a later date. Your race place will be guaranteed. To defer your entry, log into your account on www.niftyentries.com, find the race place you would like to defer, choose Transfer, select ‘Transfer to another event’ and then pick the 2022 event.
What is the deadline to make a decision?
Please make your decision by 31st January 2021, to allow us to plan.
I haven't received an email - what should I do?
Please make sure you've checked all your email accounts, including your spam folders. If you still can't find your email then contact email@example.com stating your full name and the race you were entered into.
What about the money I have already raised in sponsorship for charity?
Active Leisure Events do not administer the fundraising of charity runners, so you should contact the charity you have signed up with or check the guidance on your fundraising website (e.g. Just Giving, Virgin Money Giving). Your donation will be even more important than ever to the charity in 2021 and the change of date allows you extra time to reach your fundraising goal. You could smash your target now you have more time! You can still fundraise for the Run Your Way Essar Chester Half Marathon.
What happens to the add-ons I ordered?
This depends on the option that you select.
If you are able to race on 19th September 2021, all add-ons have automatically been transferred with your entry. You can collect your hoodie on race weekend from Help Desk and you will receive your medal insert from iTab separately, after the race.
If you decide to run the race your way, then any hoodie or iTab that you have ordered will be carried over when you transfer. Your hoody will be posted to you with your medal and t-shirt around the time of the main event, once we have received the products and you have uploaded your evidence. Your medal insert will arrive separately from iTab. If you ordered a photo package, this will be refunded.
If you defer your entry to 2022 then all add-ons you ordered will automatically move across to your 2022 entry.
How will you make the 2021 events secure?
We will continue to follow the advice and current guidelines provided by our local council and the governing bodies for our sport. This is a highly dynamic situation and every aspect of our race is under review, we will continually adapt and adjust our event plans as appropriate.
Full details of the measures required to enable us to host Covid secure events and to ensure the safety of everyone involved, will be confirmed closer to race day. Please rest assured we are continually working behind the scenes with stakeholders and leading crowd management specialists to deliver a safe and amazing experience for our runners in 2021.
