Road Closures

On race day, roads will be closed to ensure the safety of runners, spectators and members of the public. We aim to create as small a footprint as possible to minimise disruption to residents and businesses, and to work with local communities to help them to benefit from the event.

Roads that remain open will be busy, delays will be likely and diversions will be in place during the road closures. Some bus services will also be affected and may be diverted. Roads will only be closed for the minimum period necessary to ensure safety.

Our route and associated road closure times are agreed by CWaC council and Cheshire Police in order to safely accommodate the event.

The interactive map below shows the road closures for the event and will always show the most up to date plan. Please note that roads will only reopen when it is safe to do so. We hope the information on this page will assist you with planning your travel.  If you require further advice, please email info@activeleisureevents.co.uk.

To open the map below in full screen click the button in the top right corner of the map window below.
To switch between satellite and map view, use the side bar, scroll all the way to the bottom and click the square tile.
To show the road closure information, click on the highlighted roads or symbols.

You won't be able to drive on roads that are closed. Further detail about the road closures and parking restrictions will be on the CWaC website here.

Access to the city centre will always be available via Sealand Road and New Crane street, except for a short period between the race start. We aim to close this section of road between 08:55 for 20 to 30 minutes.

If you live on the route and know you will need to leave by car during the road closures, we would advise that you move your car away from affected roads before the closures start.

If you are travelling into the city, please use Liverpool Road, Hoole Way, the A51 and Grosvenor Road routes to avoid the closed roads.

If you live off Sealand Road

Access to Sealand Road towards Chester will be available except for a 20 to 30 minute period from 08:55, while the runners leave the Chester Racecourse. If you need to leave your house towards Chester we recommend that you leave before 08:55 or after 09:25.

If you live in the Garden Quarter or Blacon

Cheyney Road, Stadium Way, Bouverie Street, Raymond Street, Canal Street and Garden Lane are closed until 13:00. Cars parked on West Lorne Street, Chichester Street or roads connecting these will be able to drive to the George & Dragon to exit. There will be no exit for cars parked in the Garden Lane car park as runners will be on the road.

Cars parked west of the canal will be able to exit via Sealand Road up to the A550 and Two Mills.

Access via Sealand Road from Blacon into Chester will be available except for a twenty to thirty minute period from 08:55, while the runners leave the Chester Racecourse. Access from Chester towards Blacon will not be available via Sealand Road between 07:30 and 10:00.

If you live in Mollington

Parkgate Road through Mollington will be closed from 08:30 to 13:00, and roads in Mollington closed from 08:30 to 12:00. Well Lane and Station Road will be closed from 08:30 to 11:00, but we will endeavour to provide residents access to the A41 after 10:10.

If you live in Saughall

From 8:30 until 13:00 Parkgate Road will be closed. Access and exit via Sealand Road to North Wales and the Wirral is available at all times. Access via Sealand Road from Saughall into Chester will be available except for a twenty to thirty minute period from 08:55, while the runners leave the Chester Racecourse. Access from Chester towards Saughall available via Sealand Road will be restricted between 07:30 and 10:00.

Access to/from Ellesmere Port and the Wirral

Please use Liverpool Road and A41 to travel between Ellesmere Port/Wirral and Chester. After 10:00 it is also possible to use Sealand Road and the A550 to get to Two Mills junction and continue north from there.

Road closures do not apply to pedestrians. If you are on the run route please take care as there will be race vehicles on the route.
